A focused build. A clear finish line.
Most projects are scoped as a fixed-price 6–12 week engagement. Once the tool is approved and handed off, ongoing changes are optional — not quietly baked into forever-support.
For a standalone web tool with clearly defined business logic, a controlled user group, and no complex third-party integrations.
6–12 weeks
Long enough to understand the process properly. Short enough to keep everyone focused on getting it done.
Scope first. Price second.
I do not price the build around how many hours I happen to spend coding. We agree on what the tool needs to do, what “done” means, and the fee before the build begins.
Define
Map the workflow, calculations, rules, exceptions, users, and outputs.
Lock scope
You receive a fixed project fee tied to the agreed requirements and acceptance criteria.
Finish
Once the agreed build is accepted, the project closes. New ideas become a Care request or a new scope.
Keep me around only if it’s useful.
After sign-off, choose an optional Care plan for small updates, refinements, and maintenance. Each plan reserves a defined amount of my time every month.
For tools that mostly need occasional polishing.
reserved each month
- Small UI or copy updates
- Minor logic adjustments
- Bug investigation / fixes
For tools your team expects to improve gradually.
reserved each month
- UI + workflow refinements
- Rule or formula updates
- Minor new fields or outputs
- Priority support queue
For teams with a steady stream of small improvements.
reserved each month
- Everything in Core
- Larger workflow refinements
- Small feature additions
- Monthly improvement review
Clear boundaries make better projects.
Do you charge hourly for builds?
Generally, no. Custom builds are scoped and priced as fixed-fee projects. Hour allowances are used only for optional post-launch Care plans.
What happens if I ask for something new during the build?
If it falls outside the agreed scope, I’ll flag it before building it. We can swap it for something of similar effort, add a change order, or save it for a later phase.
Do Care hours roll over?
Monthly plans are designed as reserved capacity, so unused hours expire. Annual plans can optionally include limited quarterly pooling.
Can I buy updates without a Care plan?
Yes, subject to availability. Small ad hoc updates can be quoted separately, while Care clients receive reserved capacity and the clearest response window.
What counts as a Care update?
Small refinements to the existing tool: copy, fields, minor workflow changes, formula or rule adjustments, UI improvements, and bug fixes. Major new modules are scoped separately.
